Hunters, anglers, cowboys, and anyone who enjoys the outdoors knows that fun is where you find it. The most enjoyable times happen when other folks see you having fun and want to join in. That’s exactly what’s going on with TOWA.
The TOWA Fall Stampede is scheduled for Oct. 19-21 on the grounds of the beautiful Shaw’s Bend Social Club outside of Columbus. One of the highlights of this year’s Stampede is the Texas Challenge, which combines four shooting competitions benefiting the Klepper Scholarship Fund. RAM and NISSAN are sponsoring our new TOWA members Chapters at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin University. They will be competing against the public in long-range, pistol, sporting clays, and archery. The Texas State Rifle Association is bringing its Youth Shooting Program. Throughout the Stampede, shooters may compete in the Yaupon Creek Silhouette Association .22 caliber match and the Texas Historical Shootist Society’s cowboy action shooting match. With seven different shooting disciplines on display, it’s only natural that the National Shooting Sports Foundation pledged to attend and sponsor.
RAM, NISSAN, TOYOTA, and CAN AM will bring their new off-road vehicles for the media Ride & Drive. After a jaunt through the woods, creeks, and Colorado River bottom you’ll wind up at the Texas Parks and Wildlife kayak dock at the Thousand Trails boat ramp. Then to add to the fun, on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon whoop and holler for the RAM/NISSAN Youth Rodeo. Each contestant will be riding for either the RAM or NISSAN Rodeo Teams. You can bet these young rough stock riders will be screwed down tight to put on a show!
Then – what’s a Texas Party without BBQ? Starting Friday night is the TOWA BBQ and Wild Game Cook Off. This is an International Barbecue Cookers Assn. sanctioned cook off. The Wild Game portion will be judged Friday night and the chicken, ribs, and brisket will be judged on Saturday.
It will be three days of Texas-style fun aimed at raising and promoting the next generation of outdoor journalists.
I reckon that’s part of our job at TOWA. Please plan on coming out and bring more folks with you.
Herman Brune, President
P.S. There will also be three days of live music. Special thanks to Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept., L3 Wildlife Management, The Texas Historical Shootist Society, The Lone Star Bow Hunters Association, The Yaupon Creek Silhouette Association, CZ USA, the Manager of the Shaw’s Bend Social Club Janet Arnold, and VIP coordinator Dana Srubar.
