Dear TOWA Members,
Hope everyone had a Great Thanksgiving, are looking forward to Christmas, and enjoyed watching/knowing that all is right in the world once again as The Fighting Texas Aggies BTHO LSU. Good Lord, I can’t wait for tu to be in the SEC.
In the never-ending effort to simplify life the EIC submission deadline is extended to Saturday, December 24. The notion is that forever more TOWA members will remember to pay dues and manage their EIC business between December 1 and Christmas. Putting the Annual Conference on the first weekend of May benefits this arrangement. Please either make submissions and payments online or mail submissions and checks to Michael Bennet, 1402 Fox Glen Trail, Mansfield, Texas 76063.
As a reminder, please put the TOWA Annual Conference, May 5 – 7, 2023, Port Arthur, Texas, on your calendar. It’s going to be great!
As a whole, the past few years were hard for writer’s organizations. The POMA conference is described as a business meeting, SEOPA as a family reunion, and AGLOW as a party. TOWA should hold true to form and be the premier gathering of writers, photographers, communicators, influencers, etc. impacting the public outlook in Texas. TOWA was well represented last summer when John Jefferson and myself won awards at the POMA conference in Kalispell. Presently, TAMU student Ms. Mallory Knee was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success, at that university, and with the help of student Zach Reinert is constructing a TOWA Student Chapter in College Station. Also, the Dallas Safari Club has renewed their support for the TOWA Youth Writing Program.
The recent “attaboys and back pats” by members are appreciated. Now please – if you’ve ever enjoyed TOWA membership – pay your dues and engage. The 6th Annual Stampede delivered a handful of new members and a platform for growing excitement. Next year is going to be bigger and better with more volunteers pledging to grow the Texas Challenge (shooting events) and the BBQ Cook Off changing to an “open” event. Then, with the advent of more student members, a definitive focused effort to gain youth writing participation, and more editors willing to use young communicators – look for TOWA to lead in growth, adding events for students and members, and in delivering the outdoor message.
Again – please pay your dues and engage – call me.
Thanks
